Kristin turns 40. She is an attractive single woman who works in her profession, has a relationship with her boss and is somehow alone. Her best friend since childhood, Lenny, gives her a surprise suitcase for her birthday. For years, unclaimed suitcases are auctioned off at the airport without knowing the contents. Lenny bought one of these suitcases for Kristin. Of course Kristin is curious and finds in this suitcase, which must have belonged to a woman, a bundle of love letters. More and more she falls for these letters and the unknown who wrote them.

Paul Pospischiel loses his job in the great colliery collapse in the Ruhr, retrains and builds a new life for himself. One day, he receives a letter from his mother, which tears him from his comfort zone and triggers a serious conflict. Erik Nietzsche is an intelligent but in many ways inexperienced shy young man who is convinced that he wants to be a film director. In the late 1970s, Erik is accepted by the Danish National Film School where he enters a world of angry and unhelpful tutors, weird fellow students and unwritten rules. In this both exhilarating and angst-provoking period for him, Erik feels increasingly like a foreigner in the film industry. Frequently, he is merely an observer of the absurdities that surround him. He encounters trade union disputes, falls in love and experiences self-assured empowered women who refuse to make a commitment. The film is a drama full of comedy - a sharp portrait of a conceited but entertaining world of film which we suspect our dogged young director will eventually conquer with his vision.
